Pear-ing Up: Resources from April’s Food Focus

Sweet, juicy and buttery, pears are the unsung hero of the fruit basket. With nearly the same texture as apples, they can be swapped into a variety of different recipes, from sweet to savory. In the article “An American Pear: From Tree to (Cafeteria) Table,” written by Kelsey Casselbury and published in the April 2019 edition of School Nutrition, take a ride with SN of the journey of a pear—from first harvest, through processing and, eventually, delivery to kitchen and cafeteria tables around the country.

But, if you’re not entirely sure what to do with pears once they arrive, don’t fret! We have the resources, tips and recipes you need to incorporate this fruit into your culinary repertoire. Check out these free resources available via The California Pear Advisory, Pacific Northwest Canned Pears and the Pear Bureau Northwest/USA Pears.
