My, my, how time flies! The School Nutrition Association is celebrating 75 years of serving America’s children, and you can read all about it in this month’s issue of School Nutrition magazine. Plus, now that we’re emerging from the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, you can take a moment to re-evaluate other important programming—including nutrition education! From lessons for students to key concepts for staff, the June/July 2021 issue of School Nutrition has all sorts of ideas and inspiration. Read it today!

  • School nutrition professionals have been dedicated to feeding the country’s schoolchildren for three-quarters of a century. In “Celebrating 75 Years of Serving Kids," Editor Patricia L. Fitzgerald takes a look back at the profession’s major milestones. Plus, in “Decades of Dedication,” SN interviews a trailblazer (Katie Wilson, PhD, SNS), a champion (Lynn Harvey, EdD, RDN, SNS) and a rising star (Keba Laid, MBA, RDN, SNS) in a reflection on the Association’s history legacy and promising future.
  • Have you registered for Virtual #ANC21? Check out the ANC Preview, which will grant you a sneak peek at what’s coming up for this conference, which is bound to be unlike no other!
  • School nutrition professionals may not be classified as instructional staff, but they are educators in their own right. In “Teaching Them a Lesson,” Senior Editor Kelsey Casselbury highlights five school nutrition departments (plus three more online in Bonus Web Content!) that have incorporated inventive nutrition education initiatives into meal offerings.
  • There’s an easy, effective way to connect kids to local foods in the cafeteria: Harvest of the Month! Dayle Hayes, MS, RD, in “Making the Most of Harvest of the Month” provides the fundamentals of HOTM programs, resources, campaign ideas and more.
  • Why should school nutrition staff be well-versed in healthy eating concepts? “Nutrition Education for Grownups,” from writer Dylan Roche, lays out reasons the team should be informed, ways to impart that information and key nutrition tenets to get started.
  • This has certainly been the year of the pivot—and the School Nutrition Foundation did just that! SNF’s Fund Development Consultant Dana Clerkin shared how the Foundation kept the fun in virtual fundraising while supporting its mission in “Raising Spirits and Funds in the Age of COVID-19.”

Plus, summer’s here and you know what that means: It’s the season for fresh, juicy corn! Did you know that the U.S. grows more corn than any other crop? But you might be surprised as to where all those kernels go—find out in “The Cob Chronicles,” by Senior Editor Kelsey Casselbury. The June/July 2021 issue of SN magazine is available now—read it today!
