As the School Nutrition Association heads into its 75th year of advocating for school meals, School Nutrition magazine is celebrating the association’s past, present and future. From recognizing all of the achievements in the past year to introducing this year’s history-making association president to providing valuable encouragement for the upcoming school year and all the challenges it may bring, the August 2020 issue of SN remembers, honors and inspires.

  • In ”Decades of Dedication,” school nutrition leaders reflect on yesterday, today and tomorrow for the association. • SNA’s newly installed president, Reginald Ross, SNS, is making history in a history-making year as the first male president since 1971-72 and only its fourth president who is a person of color. In “ Man of the Hour,” get to know Ross and how he’s well-suited to rise to the challenges of the upcoming year.
  • Even though the world turned upside down in spring 2020, SNA stepped up with many notable achievements for the year. Check them out in “Remember This.”
  • A GoFundMe campaign launched by the School Nutrition foundation has provided valuable financial support to nearly 170 school nutrition operations (and counting), but the need continues. Read more in “A Crowdsourcing Coup.”
  • August typically marks the season for back-to-school shopping for students. What are the three essential tools that you will need for the upcoming school year? Find out in “Assemble Your Back to School Supplies.” Hint: You won’t be able to find them on Amazon.com.
  • Speaking of back to school, consider what the new school year means: For SY2020-21, it doesn’t mean back to normal. Learn how school nutrition teams plan to cope in “It’s a Matter of Mindset.”
  • Even though it’s going to be a strange school year in an even stranger calendar year, make time to celebrate seasonal holidays—they bring a bit of fun and levity to a scary time. Whether you’re serving meals in the cafeteria, in the classroom or at curbside, you can still have a spooky good Halloween celebration—get ideas with “Scary-Good Celebrations.”

Now more than ever, you need information that will instruct and inspire you for the challenges of the upcoming school year. The August issue of School Nutrition is here to help with just that. Read it today!
