Nutrition Advisory Councils (NACs) were formed in 1973 based on the idea that students should have an active role in their school meals programs. NACs offer a forum where ideas could be exchanged for the benefit of all people involved, including teachers and students. In Fall 2003, however, the formal program administered by the School Nutrition Association was discontinued. Although SNA is no longer sponsoring a national NAC program, the Association encourages schools to continue forming them.
