ARLINGTON, VA – The non-profit School Nutrition Association (SNA) welcomes Shannon Gleave, RDN, SNS, as President for the 2024-25 School Year (SY) to represent its membership of 50,000 school nutrition professionals nationwide. Since 2013, Gleave has also served as Director of Food and Nutrition for Glendale Elementary School District (GESD) in Arizona.

In her role at GESD, Gleave oversees a team of 108 who serve approximately 9,100 students across 12 schools. To ensure all of her students have access to free school meals, Gleave transitioned her program to the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) districtwide in February 2024. During SY 2023-24, GESD served more than 1.2 million healthy school lunches and 741,600 breakfasts.

To boost GESD’s breakfast participation, Gleave implemented a grab ‘n’ go breakfast model, enabling students to pick up meals in the cafeteria or at carts stationed near the school entrance. Her program also ensures students have access to healthy meals during the summer through the Summer Food Service Program. GESD offers summer meals at eight sites and on three bus routes.

Prior to her role at GESD, Gleave was Student Nutrition Specialist for Tempe Elementary School District, AZ, planning school menus for five years. She has also served as adjunct faculty at Central Arizona College and Phoenix College, teaching nutrition classes. Gleave has a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from Arizona State University.

An SNA member for 18 years, Gleave has been active at both the state and national levels. She has chaired the Membership, Nutrition, Director/Supervisor and Legislative Committees for SNA of Arizona and in 2014-15 served as SNAAZ President. At the national level, Gleave chaired the Nutrition and Research Committee and served on the Board of Directors as At Large Director prior to serving as SNA Vice President and President-Elect.
