Lynelle Johnson is the Director of Child Nutrition and Food Distribution at the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction. She previously was a School Food Service Director in two school districts in North Dakota. She has worked in Child Nutrition since 1994. She served on her state SNA board as President, Nutrition Chair, Education Chair, and Public Policy and Legislative Chair. She served as a Director on the SNA Board from 2020 to 2023 and is the current SNA Vice-President. Lynelle is married to Bruce and has two children, Mason (29) and Emily (28).

What areas of the business are responsible for? 
Our office administers all of the Child Nutrition (SNP, SBP, SFSP, CACFP, SSO), and Food Distribution Programs (USDA Foods in Schools, FDPIR, CSFP, FDPIR, TEFAP)

What do you bring to the role? 
I have nearly 30 years of experience in School Nutrition and bring extensive knowledge of program management, including budgeting, finances, staff supervision, menu planning, and USDA regulations. In my current role at the state agency, I draw on my past experience as a Food Service Director to help schools run strong, successful programs. I am passionate about building collaboration among school nutrition professionals, policymakers, and industry partners to enhance and strengthen school nutrition programs.

What do you do in your free time?
I really enjoy spending time outdoors, walking, or planting and caring for flowers in the summer.
