On June 30, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack held a live, virtual town hall with SNA members to discuss USDA’s support for school meal programs as they face ongoing challenges.

SNA President Beth Wallace, MBA, SNS, had the opportunity to ask Secretary Vilsack several questions from SNA’s Board and Public Policy and Legislation Committee. Topics covered included: the need to ensure the financial sustainability of school meal programs; concerns about finding products that meet strict nutrition standards; how to keep manufacturers from leaving the K-12 market; the loss of free meals for all students and how to avert a student meal debt crisis in the coming school year.
