Earlier this month, the Senate Agriculture Committee unanimously advanced Brooke Rollins’ nomination as Secretary for the U.S. Agriculture Department (USDA), sending it to the full Senate. At the same time, the Senate Finance Committee approved Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.) for Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). Together, USDA and HHS oversee Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs), which shape school nutrition standards.
On February 13th, both Rollins and RFK Jr. were officially sworn in. As USDA Secretary, Rollins now leads Federal school nutrition programs. In a letter to State, Tribal, Territory, and Local Government Partners, she emphasized a “historic opportunity to improve nutrition programs to better serve those in need.”
