I was the pickiest eater as a child—there’s no doubt I drove my mom and grandma crazy. I remember my grandmother, who was an amazing Italian cook, making simple dishes like spaghetti and butter or rice and butter for me. Don’t get me wrong, despite my strong preferences, school lunch was just as comforting. I looked forward to the yummy square pizzas, peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches and, my personal favorite, peanut butter rice crispy treats.
