Mad About Food
Food is more than nourishment—it builds communities, celebrates cultures and expands horizons, especially in a setting such as the one you create for your students at school. In our annual food issue, we’re exploring cafeteria classics, student-driven menus, “super” ingredients and diverse cuisines to explore the many roles a simple meal can play in our lives. Log into your SNA account and take a look at our coverage found in the March/April 2025 issue of School Nutrition. Here’s what you’ll find:
- A Journey Through Cafeteria Classics: Some classic lunch menu items have remained consistent, but you might be surprised by the cultural influences that put these foods on the tray in the first place.
- Student-Driven Menus: One of the best ways you can get students engaged with your program (and increase participation) is by getting their input on what you serve through activities like food festivals and taste tests.
- Packing a Nutritional Punch: Nutrient-dense superfoods like blueberries, salmon and quinoa have a reputation for a good reason—they’re familiar foods that are versatile when you’re planning your menu, and they’re full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that benefit growing bodies.
- Food Focus: Bringing Hispanic Cuisine to the Cafeteria: Popular dishes like tacos and empanadas can ensure your Hispanic students feel seen and appreciated within your school community while increasing cultural awareness and inclusion.
