What Is National School Lunch Week?
National School Lunch Week (NSLW) has been a cherished tradition since President Lyndon B. Johnson established it by proclamation in 1962. Observed every year during the second week of October, NSLW is a nationwide celebration dedicated to highlighting the vital role school lunch plays in the health, well-being and academic success of students across America.
Each year, SNA leads the charge in bringing NSLW to life—equipping school nutrition professionals with themes, toolkits and resources to help them celebrate their work, engage their school communities and shine a well-deserved spotlight on the people behind every meal. From cafeterias in rural areas to urban school districts, NSLW is a moment for the entire school nutrition community to come together, take pride in their work and remind the world why their work matters so much.
