On September 18, Evora Nichole Taylor, SNA’s Public Policy and Legislation Committee Chair testified before a Senate Subcommittee, urging members of Congress to support free, healthy school meals for all students and increase federal reimbursement rates to help school meal programs manage high costs.
Taylor, who is also Director of Food and Nutrition for Chichester School District in Upper Chichester, Pennsylvania, was invited to testify at a hearing before the Senate Subcommittee on Food and Nutrition, Specialty Crops, Organics, and Research. During the hearing titled, “Keeping Kids Learning in the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program,” Taylor discussed how her students have benefited from free school meal service under the Community Eligibility Provision and how her program struggles with staffing and financial challenges.
