Last week, SNA CEO Patricia Montague, FASAE, CAE, met with representatives of the MAHA Commission and key Senate leaders to advocate for increased investments in school meal programs.
Montague spoke with Senator John Boozman (R-AK), Chairman of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee; Senator John Hoeven (R-ND), Chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies; and representatives of the MAHA Commission. She shared the tireless efforts of SNA members to improve the nutrition and quality of school meals for students, as well as the financial, operational and regulatory challenges faced by school meal programs. Montague stressed that school nutrition professionals need additional funds and support to sustain this progress, meet forthcoming added sugar and sodium limits and expand scratch preparation of school meals.
As the MAHA Commission prepares to release its strategy to combat childhood chronic disease, SNA will continue to advocate for investments in school meal programs, proven to support students’ health and academic achievement.
