The School Nutrition Foundation (SNF) honors the leadership of outgoing SNF President, Dr. Becky Domokos-Bays, RD, SNS. As Foundation Chair, Becky’s long-standing commitment to SNA members, strengthening the school nutrition community and providing skill-building programs was at the forefront of her tenure.
As SNF President, Becky took a grass roots approach, focusing on member engagement by reinvigorating the Foundation’s State Affiliate Ambassador Program, where member volunteers help raise both funds and awareness of SNF’s programs and services available to School Nutrition Association (SNA) members. Becky was instrumental in leading the Foundation to develop a fresh marketing narrative, highlighting the Foundation’s impact through story-telling and first-hand experiences from scholarship and grant recipients. Under Becky’s leadership, the Foundation increased funds by increasing the number of Golden Ticket Raffles held annually, launched the Dining with a Purpose program, held our first peer to peer Giving Tuesday campaign, increased the number of conference scholarships awarded from 29 to 81 recipients and increased the number of school districts awarded equipment grants from 5 to over 50 recipients. During SNA national conferences, if you stopped by the SNF booth or table, you were likely greeted by Becky’s welcoming “hello” as she drew both friends and strangers in to learn about the Foundation’s programs.
Becky, a retiree, has more than 35 years of experience in school nutrition programs. Her interest to serve children led to a BS degree in Dietetics from Marshall University, WV; a MS degree in Human Nutrition and Foods; and a PhD in Adult and Community Education, both from Virginia Tech University. Becky has been a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for nearly 50 years. Prior to serving a two-year term as SNF President, Becky served and chaired numerous national and state committees, served as SNA president in 2016-17 and won SNA’s National Director of the Year award in 2019. Becky is now returning to her consultancy work and serves as a trainer for the Institute of Child Nutrition, continuing her commitment to helping school nutrition programs succeed.
Dr. Becky Domokos-Bays, RD, SNS, thank you for your lifelong dedication and service in elevating the school nutrition profession, and for your outstanding leadership.
