The School Nutrition Foundation (SNF) has named Chelsea Trofholz, Food Service Director at Boys Town (Father Flanagan’s Boys Home) in Nebraska, the recipient of the LTI Equipment Grant to obtain a new Low Temp Industries (LTI, Inc.) Grab ‘n Go Cart valued up to $10,000. The grant is among 2026 SNF Equipment Grants available to help school meal programs overcome staffing, budget or operational challenges. The additional funding supports programs working to expand fresh and scratch-made menu options, increase efficiencies and enhance the cafeteria experience to nourish students’ school days.
Boys Town Day School, within Father Flanagan’s Boys Home community, serves students in K-12 who have struggled in traditional school settings due to behavioral or emotional challenges or academic difficulties. Predictability, choice and efficiency are critical needs around meal times and the Grab ‘n Go Cart will provide an effective new service option.
The fully equipped cart would replace a folding table to offer a more appealing display with easier access and increased food choices for students. The new cart will be especially helpful for students that need a fast, convenient way to grab breakfast. An organized layout and improved design will streamline setup and make it easier for staff to stock and maintain grab-and-go options that students can choose independently.
The cart will also expand capacity for Trofholz and her team to offer a larger and more diverse selection of healthy foods. Its configuration supports menu and recipe innovation, greater incorporation of local foods and more scratch-made items that appeal to students.
“The flexibility the cart provides to offer healthy, portable meals allows us to highlight fresh, higher quality options which will help increase student meal participation,” said Chelsea Trofholz, Food Service Director. “When more of our students access nutritious food, we strengthen overall health and academic readiness, ensuring fewer students go without a meal simply due to access or time constraints.”
In a recent School Nutrition Association survey of school meal program directors, 94% of respondents reported a need for more equipment and infrastructure to expand scratch preparation and reduce reliance on ultra-processed foods.
“We are honored to continue our partnership with the SNF Grant program this year, and we’re incredibly excited to award this mobile cart to Father Flanagan’s Boys Home. It will give the school an additional service point, making it more convenient for students to take advantage of healthy food options,” said Barbara Casey Lane, LTI’s CEO and Chairman of the Board.
“This grant will help Boys Town transform the grab-and-go service model to better meet the unique needs of their students, improve efficiency and increase healthy food options,” said SNF Chair, Gay Anderson, SNS.
As the recipient of the LTI Equipment Grant, Boys Town will receive delivery of the new Grab ‘n Go Cart to benefit program operations in the upcoming school year.
