The National Leadership Conference (NLC) provides current and future state and national leaders with the opportunity to learn critical information about successfully leading a nonprofit association, to network with other leaders from across the country, and to gain new skills to become a more effective and engaging leader.

SNA encourages state affiliates to send incoming Presidents, Presidents-Elect, and Vice-Presidents for the 2015-16 term, along with State Association Executives, to this event. The state association is also welcome to send any other interested state board members, such as the Membership Chair, Conference Chair or Secretary/Treasurer.

  • By March 20, register at the Early Bird Rate: $350
  • From March 20 until April 10, register at the Regular Rate: $395
  • After April 10, you must register on-site at the On-Site Rate: $420

Pre-Conferences Sessions:
Preparing for the Presidency
SNA is pleased to offer the Preparing for the Presidency pre-conference session for a total of 8 hours, beginning on Wednesday, April 22, from 1:30 to 5:30 pm, and continuing on Thursday, April 23, from 8:00 am to Noon. Please note that you must attend both sessions. Registration is required. Cost is $99.

Managing Association Finances
SNA will also offer the Managing Association Finances pre-conference session on Thursday, April 23, from 8:00 am to Noon. Registration is required. Cost is $50.

Welcome Reception
The Welcome Reception will be held from 4:45-6:00pm on Thursday, April 23 for all attendees. Join us for hors d’oeuvres and a hosted bar while you network with leaders from across the county. There is no additional charge for this event. After the Welcome Reception, you will have a free evening to explore the Belmont Park Area (where restaurants and shops are only a $5.00 cab fare away), visit downtown San Diego, or dine at the Red Marlin restaurant (at the hotel) which opens onto the beach with panoramic views of the ocean and fire pits outside.

New! Roundtrip Transportation to Gas Lamp District
Roundtrip transportation will be provided by SNA to the Gas Lamp District on the free evening on Friday, April 24, for all interested NLC attendees. Shuttles will pick-up participants in front of Hyatt Regency hotel lobby at 5pm. To learn about San Diego’s Gas Lamp District, please click here.

Conference Speakers

Dr. David Farrar
Managing Partner, Koliso, The Psychology of Business

Dr. David Farrar’s expertise is the psychology of business. David is an Australian living in the US since 2001 and a trained psychologist with international experience as an executive, consultant and speaker. David works with senior executives, management teams and leaders addressing the people issues that make the most difference to their success. The paybacks for his clients regularly have broad strategic impact and exceed millions of dollars. David works with his clients to improve what matters most in their business, such as customer satisfaction, employee wellbeing, productivity and profitability. David will present the opening general session and a break-out session on change management.

Don Schindler
Senior Vice President of Digital Initiatives, Dairy Management Inc.

Don Schindler is responsible for the digital architecture and integration of all digital properties at Dairy Management Inc. He is also training farmers, DMI staff and dairy industry professionals in digital communications and social media. Before coming to DMI, Don managed the creative services of University Communications at the University of Notre Dame. He also taught both graduate and undergraduate classes in digital technology and social media at the University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business. Before coming to Notre Dame, Don worked as a digital strategist and executive creative director at Indianapolis-based digital agency, Mediasauce. Don will present two break-out sessions on social media etiquette.

SNA Future Leaders Program

Held in conjunction with NLC, the SNA Future Leaders Program provides hands-on training to new and future leaders of SNA. Future Leaders are given the opportunity to network with other emerging SNA stars from across the country, hone their leadership and communication skills, and learn from seasoned SNA leaders in a fun and interactive learning environment.

Nominations

Each state association may nominate up to three individuals to this program. Nominees must be:

  • Current SNA national and state association members
  • Currently hold a SNA Certificate in School Nutrition or the SNS Credential

Nominations were due Friday, February 27. The Future Leaders Program has accepted the maximum of 50 participants. We are no longer accepting nominations. Please contact StateSupport@schoolnutrition.org with questions.
