What’s important for you about working in school nutrition?

I’ve been a member of SNA for 17 years. For me, school breakfast and lunch have always been about more than the food. They have been vehicles to memories, time with friends and lots of laughter. Now that I am a part of providing that school nutrition experience to children, it’s important that I work for a company that places nutrition first and ensures that the food is good enough to keep our students coming back for more and creating memories.

What career highlight gives you the most pride?

I will never forget being honored in my younger days as the “Young Careerist of the Year” by the Spartanburg Business and Professional Women’s Organization. More recently, I am most proud of being selected as a previous Industry Member of the Year by SNA of South Carolina.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever heard?

There are two. The first is a quote: “Bloom where you are planted.” I’ve also been reminded that everyone is important, no matter what job or job level they have.

What would be the first thing you’d do if you won the lottery?

Cry, as I do at the drop of a hat—happy or sad! Next, I would tithe, make my parents debt-free, then totally fund our local annual Hallelujah Night Event, which is a collaboration of community churches that provide an alternative experience to traditional Halloween Night activities. We provide a safe environment with bounce houses, trunk-or-treat opportunities, games, prizes and food for everyone in the community—all at no charge.

If you could have any magical power, what would it be?

The ability to stop time! Happy moments would never end, and we’d never grow up!

What would you include in a time capsule to be opened in 100 years?

My grandparent’s Bible, a family picture and, of course, a Super Donut from Super Bakery!

What’s most important for your mental health?

Shopping! But, really, spending time with my family and friends. There’s nothing like gathering around the table and laughing until your face hurts. I have wall art in my dining room that says, “The fondest memories are made when gathered around the table.”

What was the last TV show you binge-watched?

“This is Us” (The Emmy award-winning drama series airs on NBC and just began its fifth season.)

What are your goals for the current school year?

To work closely with my brokers and be accessible to help fulfill the needs of the school districts in my Southeast Region during this unprecedented time. Also, I am newly appointed to the School Nutrition Foundation Board of Directors and also serve on SNA’s Industry Advisory Council, and my goal is to learn how I can use my talents and time to enhance the efforts and achieve the goals of both groups.
