Please share a little of your K-12 school nutrition journey.

During my dietetic internship, I spent eight weeks in a school nutrition rotation and that experience completely changed the course of my career. I fell in love with the mission and impact of the work, and I’ve been in the field ever since. My journey began at the Indiana Department of Education and I’ve also worked on the industry side as a K-12 specialist for a foodservice equipment dealer. Now, for 18 years, I’ve proudly served as a Child Nutrition Director, continuing to grow my passion for feeding students and supporting school communities.

How do you cheer yourself up on a bad day?

On a tough day, I spend time with my 7-year-old son. He has this amazing ability to bring me perspective and joy, no matter what’s going on. His energy, curiosity and sense of humor always lift my spirits and remind me of what really matters.

What is the best vacation you’ve ever been on?

I love to travel and experience new places, but I’ve learned that what makes a vacation truly special isn’t always the destination, it’s the people I’m with. Some of my favorite trips weren’t about where I went, but about the memories I created with those I shared them with. Being surrounded by great company makes any place feel unforgettable.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

If I could live anywhere in the world, it would definitely be on a beach—somewhere warm, peaceful and beautiful… but without hurricanes! I love the idea of waking up to the sound of waves, feeling the sun on my face and living life at a slower pace. Just give me ocean views and zero storm warnings, and I’m set.

Do you have a dream superpower?

Teleporting! I would love to just hop around to any destination I chose without the hassle of traveling by car or plane.

What famous person would you like to spend a day with?

Honestly, I don’t do well around famous people. I have no chill! I actually had a very embarrassing encounter with Katie Couric one year at LAC that still makes me cringe, so while there are people I admire, I’m not sure I’d trust myself to keep it together long enough to enjoy the experience!

What is your favorite holiday?

The Fourth of July! We host a pool party every year and invite friends and family over. It’s all about swimming, eating and just enjoying each other’s company.

What’s one crazy activity on your bucket list?

I know it sounds ridiculous, but one of the craziest things on my bucket list is getting into a bar fight, just once! The movies always make them look so dramatic and oddly fun. Of course, I’d want it to be low-stakes and harmless, but there’s just something about the chaos and adrenaline that intrigues me. It’s probably best if I stick to watching it on screen, though!
