- Experienced Leaders - Association CPR: Breathing Life Back into Your State Association
Pam Suyematsu, Oregon SNA President and Lynne Shore, SNA Director
In the spring of 2020 what was to be a two-week state shutdown turned into a two-year Covid-19 nightmare. One of the casualties was our state association. The pandemic had the members scrambling to feed the students and deal with all the challenges. As a result of the challenges most of the members were burnt out and passionless. In September of 2021, a former state president was appointed to take the helm of the Oregon Nutrition Association. Her passion and enthusiasm for SNA and dedication of feeding kids helped fuel the drive to rebuild the state's board of directors and revive her state association. In this inspiring session, she will show you how she did it. First Aid was administered through recruiting, reviewing finances and by-laws and restructuring committees and so much more. Collaboration with many talented and dedicated people has helped breath life back into the association. We are still working to bring strength and stability to our board and the state association, but it is starting to feel more like our pre-pandemic association.

- Presiding Leaders – Implementing Change: How to Get Rid of “Sacred Cows”
Jennifer Martin, CAE, New York SNA ExecutiveDirectorEvery organization has sacred cows. Some of them were implemented so long ago that the current leadership doesn’t even know why they exist. But as some members may have developed an emotional attachment, association leaders become frustrated trying to chip away at those customs/traditions/practices that have run their course. Want to learn how to sunset a program, or eliminate an event that is no longer sustainable? How about merging or eliminating standing committees to increase efficiency? No matter how big or small, the struggle is real! Join us for a practical approach to implementing change by reviewing actual examples and the processes used. This session merges the traditional “lecture-style” workshop with all the benefits of round table discussions. So, bring your organization’s sacred cows to the table and we will help you prepare to moove them along.
