Rising Above: SNA's 2020-2021 Year in Review

2021-07-19

More than 1,200 attendees were on hand for SNA’s first ever  Virtual Annual National Conference on Tuesday, July 13, a testament to the resilience of the school nutrition profession after a most extraordinary year.

In this video excerpt from the opening general session for #ANC21, SNA 2020/2021 President Reggie Ross and CEO Patti Montague offer a quick look back at the past year and share highlights of the work our association has done under very challenging circumstances. The numbers show a resilient, innovative and strong organization poised to embrace the future thanks to the support of our members and industry partners.

In the midst of a global pandemic, the Association achieved a great number of successes over the past year. On the advocacy front, more than 133,00 messages were sent to Congress, while 80 waivers were secured working with the USDA to help school nutrition professionals safely serve students during the pandemic.

SNA hosted 10 virtual conferences, 33 webinars, registered more than 18,000 individuals on SNA’s Training Zone, oversaw 26,000 hours of training, and presented more than 30,000 certificates of completion. SNA also launched the USDA-funded program LEAD to Succeed with more than 1,000 participants and counting. Through the School Nutrition Foundation and allied partners, a record $545,000 in grants were made available to support school districts help ensure kids were fed in communities around the country.

These accomplishments would not have been possible without the tremendous support of our members. “As a member, you came to our virtual meetings, you wrote to your representatives, you spoke up, and you took action,” says Patricia Montague, SNA CEO. “Today, conversations like universal feeding, that would have been unimaginable even a few years ago, are happening. “

“We did it thanks to you and your unwavering support,” says Ross. “That is why I honestly say that serving as your president and representing school nutrition professionals around the country has been a great privilege and one of the highlights, not only of my career but of my life.”
