Lead the Conversation: The Role of School Meals in Hunger, Nutrition and Health

The Biden-Harris Administration is planning a White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health to be held in September, 2022.  During this conference, the Administration plans to unveil a national strategy to “accelerate progress and drive transformative change in the U.S. to end hunger, improve nutrition… and close disparities…”

School nutrition professionals such as yourself have valuable hunger and nutrition expertise to contribute. Multiple studies show that school meals play an important role in supporting obesity prevention and overall student health by improving children’s diets and combatting food insecurity. Share your input to ensure that any national strategy reflects the significant impact of school nutrition programs on the communities they serve.

Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Hold a local stakeholder meeting. The White House has provided a toolkit to help you host your own virtual or in-person, local conversations with community professionals working to end hunger and reduce diet-related disparities. After your meeting, share your collective input with the White House.
  • Individual contributions are also welcome through the “Share Your Written Ideas” submission form at the bottom of the White House page.
  • Sign up to receive email updates for the Conference.
