The Military Dependents School Meal Eligibility Act Introduced

United States Representatives Mike Levin (D-CA), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Sanford Bishop (D-GA), and Richard Hudson (R-NC) introduced the Military Dependents School Meal Eligibility Act.

Federal meal programs such as the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program provide meals to eligible children based on family income. However, servicemembers receive a housing allowance, which is considered part of their income, and this makes their children ineligible to participate in these programs. This legislation will ensure that servicemembers’ children have access to federal school meal programs.
