Journal of Child Nutrition & Management Names New Editor 2021-03-16The School Nutrition Association is pleased to announce that Susan W. Arendt, PhD, RD, FAND, has been appointed as the new editor of the Journal of Child Nutrition and Management, the Association’s open-source, peer-reviewed electronic research publication. Arendt is a Professor of Hospitality Management at Iowa State University, as well as a University Faculty Fellow for online learning. With 83 published/accepted referred journaled articles, 13 refereed proceedings and 5 book chapters on her curriculum vitae, Arendt’s research has been published frequently in JCN&M, as well as other respected publications such as the Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, Journal of Foodservice Management and Education and Journal of Food Studies. Arendt, who has been an SNA member since 2007, was first introduced to JCN&M in graduate school and says that she now makes it a point to introduce it to her undergrad and graduate students while mentoring them through research. She’s been a reviewer for the Journal for several years. "I'm looking forward to working to increase the visibility of the research that’s published in the Journal," Arendt says. "I’m also looking forward to exploring potential avenues to have the reach of the journal go beyond just those involved directly involved in school nutrition; that might be other stakeholders, like superintendents. JCN&M biannually publishes research findings on a wide variety of topics related to the K-12 school foodservice segment, including nutrition, administration, operations, food production and service, food safety, marketing and more. The Journal is currently seeking submissions for a special issue addressing challenges and strategies related to the need for alternative meal service and delivery. Individuals who can offer relevant strategies and innovative solutions for ensuring the health and safety of school meals in the midst of uncertainty are invited to submit manuscripts for consideration by December 31, 2021.
