Working Through New Staffing Challenges


The school year may be officially underway, but many districts are tackling reopening challenges in phases. The learning model in place today may transition in the weeks to come, and school nutrition professionals are expected to adjust meal service to match. Ongoing uncertainties about what’s to come and when present challenges to school meal operations, playing havoc with cafeteria and kitchen staffing strategies. While some districts have more staff onboard than work to fill the day, others are straining to cope with unfilled position vacancies.

Working Through It,” the latest article in School Nutrition magazine’s COVID-19 digital supplement series, offers reflections from eight district directors who share pain points about staffing challenges, while reaffirming their pride for the dedication of frontline team members.
