SNA Board Discusses COVID-19 Challenges with USDA

2020-04-07

USDA.jpgMonday, April 6, SNA’s Board of Directors held a conference call with the USDA FNS Child Nutrition Team to discuss challenges SNA members face as they work to serve students during COVID-19 school closures.

Prior to the call, SNA canvassed members across the country to gather top concerns to share with USDA. Topics discussed included: the need for federal safety guidance and Personal Protective Equipment for school nutrition staff, the financial impact of COVID-19 closures on school meal programs, staffing concerns for School Year 2020/2021, USDA Foods entitlements and State Agency challenges.

SNA Board Members expressed concerns for the safety of their staff and the ability of school meal programs to operate effectively next fall due to COVID-19 financial losses. USDA pledged to continue the partnership and open dialogue with SNA through this pandemic and beyond.
