School Produce Options: Contact Your Distributor Today!

2020-04-07

On a typical day, 40% of fresh produce in America goes to foodservice establishments, like restaurants and schools. COVID-19 closures have left produce distributors with excess stock of fresh fruits and vegetables. School nutrition professionals are encouraged to contact produce distributors to see what’s available for purchase, or in some cases, donation. Produce distributors may offer both single-serve and bulk foodservice produce packs, as well as pre-packaged salads, in single-serve bowls, salad kits in 5 lbs. foodservice bags, or mixed produce bags. Some may be able to assist with sandwiches and single-serve fresh-cut fruit and vegetable snack packs. Call your produce distributor to ask what’s available.  These are extraordinary times, and everyone’s is pitching in to make food available.
