Make Every Day a Celebration with the SN Promo Calendar

2021-02-01

blank-history-monthIt’s always a good day for a celebration, and February is host to a multitude of observances that offer an opportunity for fun cafeteria (or curbside) promotions. School Nutrition’s Promotional Calendar has all the information you need to get started.

Black History Month

Since 1976, February has been deemed Black History Month, created to commemorate the lives, contributions and achievements of the Black community. You can celebrate this month by supporting Black-owned business, taking a virtual tour of the National Museum of African American History & Culture and creating a menu of African-inspired dishes at home or at school. Did you know that the popular dishes Jambalaya, Gumbo and Barbecue can all be traced back to various African regions? When your February issue of SN arrives, flip to the monthly Food Focus department to read, “Out of Africa,” which provides a look at how African food has influenced American cuisine, plus a bunch of regulation-compliant recipes and celebration ideas!

Food-Themed Holidays

Looking for more celebration opportunities? How about some observances that are specifically related to food? Choose from:

  • Canned Food Month
  • National Bake for Family Fun Month
  • National Grapefruit Month
  • National Hot Breakfast Month
  • Pride in Foodservice Week (Feb. 1-5)
  • National Pizza Day (Feb. 9)
  • National Cheddar Day (Feb. 13)
  • National Chili Day (Feb. 25)
