U.S. Representatives Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08), and Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01) have introduced H.R. 5463, the Healthy Meal Time Act. This bill would provide schools with best practices for scheduling lunch and recess to ensure that all students have enough time to eat and to reduce food waste. In addition, this act directs the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), along with input from the Department of Education (DOE), to perform a study to discover successful strategies and innovative techniques to improve eating time and food waste management.
