Three Ways to Include Parents in #NSLW18 2018-09-24 NSLW 2018 is a mere three weeks away! Have you ordered your #Lots2Love gear and included parents in your celebration plans? Here are three ways to engage them in your activities: 1. Remind parents about the benefits of school lunch and share the new #NSLW18 Infographic, available in both English and Spanish. Studies show that school lunches are more likely to include fruit, vegetables, and dairy than those from home. Lunches from home are also likely to have snacks high in sugar and/or fat. Encourage students and parents to review the lunch week menu together to start a dialogue about healthy eating. 2. Invite parents to enjoy school lunch with their child by hosting National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, or any other day that works for them. Give them a free lunch coupon and an invitation to join you at their convenience. Offer samples, give tours and use the opportunity to show them how much school lunch has changed since they were students! 3. Break down the cost savings of school lunch. Parents may not realize the incredible value school lunch can offer versus brown-bagging it. Illustrate the savings with a side-by-side comparison of the average school lunch at your school versus the average school lunch brought from home. You can also encourage parents to follow the SNA TrayTalk Facebook page and blog for school lunch innovations and success stories.
