SNA’s Professional Development Series: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

SNA’s DEI Professional Development Series

A Sneak Peek at Some of the Learning Objectives

  • Introduce frameworks and practical ways to value and appreciate human differences.
  • Apply a more intentional leadership approach to practicing diversity and inclusion.
  • Recognize unconscious biases that lead to discrimination, inequity and exclusion.
  • Describe the repercussions of exclusion and how it impacts your team and their productivity.
  • Discuss methods to create a more inclusive work environment.

SNA is committed to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) with clearly defined strategies for meaningful action. In fact, DEI is a fundamental element in SNA’ multi-year Strategic Plan. As a part of the Association’s efforts in this regard, and to coincide with Global Diversity Awareness Month, SNA debuted a new DEI professional development series on October 1—to provide members with valuable educational opportunities on this critical topic.

We’re pleased to partner with national authority and fearless advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion, Dr. Nika White, for many of the key trainings, as well as school foodservice operators and others in school nutrition with expertise in this area.

If you missed the inaugural DEI webinar for leaders, Growing as an Intentional Inclusionist®, check it out On-Demand. Dr. White earned high praise from attendees ("This is the best diversity presentation that I have heard."). Additional DEI On-Demand education opportunities include:

  • How to Become a More Inclusive Team Member with Dr. White—for the heart of every K-12 foodservice team—school nutrition employees and frontline staff.
  • Featuring SNA leaders (and rising stars) who have shaped the school nutrition profession, the webinar Celebrate Black History Month with SNA shares inspiring leadership journeys, discussions and celebrations surrounding the critical role school nutrition programs play to fuel all students for success.

Additionally, this year there are two planned issues of School Nutrition (SN) magazine on the topic of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Available now, SN’s February issue encourages readers to embrace our differences, celebrate allcultures and build diverse, inclusive teams.

DEI training must be an ongoing effort, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Thus, our series—which will continue to be delivered through webinars, conferences and SN articles—will feature a mix of first-hand lived experiences, thought starters, self-assessments and exercises, networking connections and suggested action steps. Stay tuned to School Nutrition.org and this webpage for the latest information, including more can’t miss DEI sessions at SNA’s Annual National Conference.

It is our hope that our DEI offerings will help you, regardless of your role in school nutrition, gain practical ways to become even more culturally competent, curious, empathetic and self-aware. Make SNA a part of your DEI journey!
