Summer Feeding Sample Menus

Below are sample menus of summer lunch and breakfast offerings from SNA members across the country. If you are new to summer feeding, download the PDFs to get a sense of a typical summer feeding menu. Thank you to the school districts below for sharing your summer menus!

  1. Burlington School District, VT
Since most of the summer programming takes place at or in schools, Burlington is able to offer a meal that’s similar to what students receive during the school year. The district also has a basic bag lunch meal for groups that go on field trips.
  2. Cumberland County Schools, TN
Cumberland administers a Summer Food Service Program through the Department of Human Services. They have 22 feeding sites, and we deliver to 11 of those (including several low income housing areas).
  3. Douglas County Schools, GA
Douglas County serves fresh fruit every day for lunch during the summer and offers child friendly-menus that meet all school nutrition requirements.
  4. Floyd County Schools, VA
In Floyd County, they make lunches and transport them to several of the outlying schools, so the menu is mainly sandwiches. Hot lunches are served at the school that produces the meals.
  5. Gates Chili Schools, NY
Students eat breakfast and lunch in a School Cafeteria but the district also transports breakfast and hot and cold Lunch meals to various playground locations in the community.
  6. Hopkins Public Schools, MN
Hopkins serves hot lunches at several school sites, sack lunches at some sites and has a mobile summer lunch truck that serves hot lunches at several remote sites.
  7. Lakeside Union School District, CA
Lakeside serves out of school cafeterias to students attending summer camp, reading programs, enrichment classes, etc. They also serve members of the community. The peaches pears, plums, etc. are all fresh and the summer food program is called the ‘Summerside Café’ to make it more fun.
  8. Pulaski County Public Schools, VA
In Pulaski, meals are catered to churches, day camps and served at the preparation sites. Most of our meals are served hot. Meals are held in insulated totes that hold proper temperatures as they transport to various locations in the county.
  9. Seattle Public Schools, WA
The city is the sponsor for the summer food program and they serve meals in a variety of parks, recreation centers and other facilities. Seattle Public Schools prepares the meals in their Central Kitchen and vends the meals to the city for summer feeding.

A two-week cycle is used for all three menus, and the meals are all for cold service.
