NSFMI Food Allergy Resources

In “The Buzz on (Food) Bans” in the June/July 2014 issue of School Nutrition, author Arianne Corbett, RD, discusses a variety of approaches taken by schools and districts in developing a food allergy management and prevention plan. Finished the article and looking for training resources and materials? National Food Service Management Institute (NFSMI) offers comprehensive information.

The following resources have been developed in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture:

General Food Allergy Information
“Managing Food Allergies in Schools” Video
Food Allergy Fact Sheets

School nutrition operations can request NFSMI training free of charge. For the current list of trainings and for more details about how to request training, visit http://www.nfsmi.org/Templates/TemplateDefault.aspx?qs=cElEPTU3. A new course titled “Managing Food Allergies in Schools” will be available in July 2014. This four-hour course is targeted at the school nutrition manager and employee and specifically addresses strategies and practices for managing food allergies in the kitchen—during food preparation, handling and service.
