Additional Reflections From Ali Vincent

School Nutrition was pleased to speak with Ali Vincent, the first female winner of “The Biggest Loser” and the author of Believe It, Be It: How Being the Biggest Loser Won Me Back My Life, for its June/July 2014 issue. SNA members will have opportunities to hear from and meet Vincent at this year’s ANC in Boston. Space restrictions prevented us from running the complete interview. Read on for more of her thoughts about her inspirations and what she hopes will be the next step in her journey.

Do you have some positive memories about school meals or cafeteria staff when you were a kid?

When I was growing up, my grandma packed our lunches, but her friend Roberta worked in the cafeteria. I loved that Roberta could be there to hug us and was always there.

You mentioned your admiration of SNA members. Who are some of your other inspirations?

I have the support of my sister and the rest of my family without judgment. My older sister owns a Pilates studio because she wants to lead by example. My nieces and nephew are so inspiring because they run and run, which reminds me that I need to get uber healthy for when the kids I want to have are those ages.

You’ve journeyed far since winning “The Biggest Loser” six years ago. What’s your next big dream or personal aspiration—the next “confetti moment” that you’ve set your eyes on?

I would like to be pregnant soon. I’ve wanted to have a family since I was a little girl. I’m 39, and I’m taking steps related to my hormone levels to try to reach my goal. Pregnancy may not happen for me, but I am pursuing it.
