USDA Issues Final Rule on CACFP Standards

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has released final regulations to update nutrition standards for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). CACFP programs must be in compliance with the new rules by October 1, 2017.

The final rule does contain some notable differences from the proposed rule, including stricter limits on sugar in sweetened yogurt and cereal, and limits on the service of juice and flavored milk. A chart outlining key differences between the proposed and final rules can be found beginning on page 7 of the rule. Charts outlining the new meal patterns in detail can be found beginning on page 71 of the rule.

SNA will notify members of new resources to assist with CACFP compliance as they become available.
