USDA Requests Information on Unpaid Meal Charges

2014-12-04

As required by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (HHFKA), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is requesting information on how schools and state agencies address the issue of unpaid meal charges. SNA has requested guidance on this issue for the past few years and is pleased that USDA has begun gathering input and solutions. To ensure that any guidance or policy meets the needs of SNA members, it is strongly encouraged that you submit your comments directly to USDA via the Federal Register process. However, we also ask that you send the same information to SNA so that we might use them in the Association’s comments as well.

Due the extensive amount of information USDA is seeking, we have created a form to assist our members. SNA asks that you: 1) Fill out the form. 2) Submit the document to USDA via this link. 3) Send a copy to SNA at advocacy@schoolnutrition.org. The copy sent to SNA will be used in ensuring the Association’s comments reflect the needs of the membership.

For any further questions, please contact SNA Staff Vice President of Child Nutrition & Policy Cathy Schuchart (cschuchart@schoolnutrition.org) or SNA Director of State Legislative Affairs Nichole Westin (nwestin@schoolnutrition.org).
