USDA Issues New Guidance on Professional Standards

2015-07-09

USDA has just issued a new, comprehensive Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) document to provide more guidance on Professional Standards for school nutrition personnel that manage and operate the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP), as required by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. To view the FAQs, visit SNA’s Professional Standards website and click on “USDA Professional Standards FAQs.”

In question #39 of the FAQs, USDA confirms suggests that up to 2 hours of exhibit floor attendance/product demo may count toward professional standards, but that the decision is at the discretion of the state agency.  It is best for state affiliates to contact their state agencies to see what they will or will not accept.

For more guidance on planning training for school nutrition operators, download SNA’s newly updated Professional Standards Training Guidelines. SNA will continue to keep you apprised of updates on USDA Professional Standards.
