Speaker Spotlight: JoAnne Robinett, SNS, America’s Meal

SNA is providing you with a “sneak peek” into some of the most popular speakers we have lined up for ANC 2015. Read on for a Q+A with JoAnne Robinett of America’s Meal.

In your opinion, what are the most important trends and issues impacting school nutrition professionals today?
Professional Standards go into effect in July 2015 – and while many people are concerned about the education level needed to qualify for a position, I think more people are anxious about how they are going to go about meeting the annual training requirements and keeping track of their documentation!

Describe a little bit about your background and experience in school nutrition.
I’ve been in school foodservice for 30 years. I started as a server/dishwasher/cashier. I got promoted to kitchen manager, went to college, and became a district director. I retired from day-to-day foodservice and started my own business, America’s Meal, to deliver training and inspiration to schools, associations, and businesses, in this field. I think of it as my “encore” career – I’m always happy to stop by a conference and share my enthusiasm with others in the great field of school nutrition.

Give us a sneak peek about what you have planned for your ANC session! What can attendees expect from you? How will your talk benefit them in their day-to-day?
I am excited to return as the lead presenter for Chapter Leadership Day. This popular pre-conference session is designed to provide tools to bolster confidence in the ability of chapter officers to plan and lead local chapters. You will leave with the resources you need to make your year successful! New for 2015, the session will assist your chapter with providing programing and CEUs that will count towards the new professional standards requirement.

I will also present an education session on presenting yourself professionally on Wednesday, July 15, at 1:30 pm.

What are you most excited about for ANC ’15?
I cannot tell you then one thing I am most excited about for ANC - I love the ENTIRE event! The sessions, the trade show, the volunteer leaders, and the recognition of leaders and award winners! I look forward to hugs from old friends and to making new ones. I get inspiration from the general session speakers and from the happenstance moments - intimate conversations that take place in a hallway or on a sofa in the lobby.
