SNA Advocacy Update: Working for and with SNA Members

SNA continues to advocate on behalf of our members and recently hosted two events to highlight the successes and challenges of running school nutrition programs. On October 14, members of the SNA Board of Directors briefed Congressional staff on all aspects of running a program. The event drew a standing room only crowd. For more information, click here.

On October 22, Congressional staffs were treated to a behind the scenes tour of a cafeteria located in Maryland. The staffers were excited to see the ins and outs of creating and serving meals to so many students in such a short of amount of time. As always, seeing school nutrition professionals at work made an impact.

You too can show off your program to your Member of Congress and enter to win a trip to the 2015 Legislative Action Conference (LAC)! It’s as easy as inviting a Member of Congress to tour your school. For more information on how to enter and cafeteria site visit best practices, click here or contact SNA Director of State Legislative Affairs Nichole Westin at

Finally, the Board invites SNA members to provide input on successes and challenges under new nutrition standards and support or concerns regarding SNA requests for flexibility under the regulations. Your input helps the Board assess implementation of the standards and SNA’s advocacy priorities. To learn more, click here.
