Professional Standards Updates and Resources

The final USDA Professional Standards rule for foodservice directors, managers, school nutrition staff and state agency directors is effective July 1, 2015.

On May 7, 2015, USDA published technical corrections to the final rule Specifically, the final rule omitted part of a criterion from the hiring standards for local agencies with 2,499 or fewer enrolled. This corrects the oversight by providing missing text and summary in the chart. It also makes a technical correction to ensure readers clearly understand the annual training standards for school nutrition program directors. All other information in the final rule remains unchanged.

To help with implementation of the new standards, SNA has created several useful resources updated with the latest technical corrections published on May 7th 2015, available on our dedicated USDA Professional Standards webpage. Here, you will also find links to the USDA’s own resources, including the new USDA Training Tracking Tool.
