Nomination Deadline Extended: Help Us Identify the School Nutrition “WOW-Makers”

The deadline for nominations for the 2016 Celebration of School Nutrition Heroes has been extended to Friday, October 30.

When we hear stories about people doing exceptional things to make a difference, “WOW” is an interjection that always springs to mind! On Monday, February 29, 2016, the third annual Celebration of School Nutrition Heroes will recognize several such extraordinary women and men in the school nutrition profession—the “WOW-Makers!”

Do you know of someone that goes above and beyond to make a positive impact in their school and community? If so, it’s not too late to nominate them to be a part of the 2016 class of School Nutrition Heroes by filling out the nomination form and submitting it by October 30th.

What does it mean to be a School Nutrition Hero? In 2014 and 2015, past recipients have...

  • ...started two homeless shelters in the community
  • ...inspired a person to make funding available so no child would have a lunch tray taken away
  • ...led advocacy efforts that secured funding and expanded access to school meals across the state
  • ...established school emergency food pantry and partnered with food bank to distribute food to families in community
  • ...initiated “Teen Kitchen” to teach students gardening, harvesting, cleaning, and cooking
  • ...raised funds to assist school nutrition workers in New York and New Jersey effected by Hurricane Sandy
  • ...developed “Sack Pack” program to provide meals for children on the weekends
  • ...created a charity to raise funds for local food banks

The celebration is an opportunity to honor the best and the brightest in school foodservice, while also supporting the School Nutrition Foundation’s efforts to provide scholarships for SNA members to pursue educational goals through professional development and formal educational programs.

The 2016 Celebration of School Nutrition Heroes will take place at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, D.C., during SNA’s Legislative Action Conference (LAC). To learn more about the event, visit
