House and Senate Vote to Avoid Government Shutdown

Congress has been under a tight deadline to keep the government funded into the new fiscal year which began Thursday, October 1st. On Tuesday, September 29, the U.S. Senate voted to pass Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) continuing resolution intended to fund the government at the same levels as last year through December 11th. On Wednesday, September 30th, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the same bill and the President has signed it into law.

Debate on government funding levels is still in full swing and the next deadline for legislators to come to a consensus is December 11th. As it stands National School Lunch, School Breakfast, Child and Adult Care Feeding, Summer Food Service and Special Milk Programs will continue to be funded at the same levels as last year. SNA will continue to monitor progress and will provide updates as new information is available.
