Getting Involved: 2016-17 National Committee Openings

2016-02-02

Are you interested in an opportunity to serve on a SNA national committee? The Association is currently looking for members who want to play an active role in shaping the future of school nutrition programs by volunteering for one of our open committee positions. Serving on a SNA national committee offers exciting opportunities to grow professionally and develop new skills.

Each committee is charged by the Board of Directors to complete work based on the Association’s Annual Plan of Action. Per the SNA Bylaws, committee appointments are appointed by the SNA President-elect for the coming year and approved by the SNA Board of Directors.

As part of the new governance structure, approved at the 2015 House of Delegates in Salt Lake City, Utah, the time commitment for committee members has moved from a three-year term to a two-year term. This change is to make the time commitment for volunteering more manageable for SNA members.

The list of positions open by committee in 2016-17 include:

Membership Committee

  • Southeast Region Representative
  • Industry Member Representative
  • Committee Chair

Professional Development Committee

  • State Agency Representative
  • Director (Major City or District Director) Representative or School Nutrition Employee/Manager Representative from the Southeast or Midwest Regions
  • Industry Member Representative

Public Policy and Legislation Committee – member with expertise in Public Policy

  • Mideast Region Representative
  • West Region Representative

Resolutions & Bylaws Committee

  • Southeast Region Representative
  • Southwest Region Representative

Industry Advisory Council

  • Food Manufacturer Representative

From time to time, SNA convenes task forces which work on school nutrition program issues. Typically, the time commitment required to serve on a task force is less than on a SNA Strategic Committee.

If you are interested in serving on a national committee, task force or the Industry Advisory Council, download the committee/task force interest form. If you have filled out a committee interest form in previous years, please fill out a new committee interest form.

Please return the committee interest form by February 15, 2016, to Deborah Van Balen, Executive Assistant, at dvanbalen@schoolnutrition.org or via fax to (301) 686-3115. If you have any questions, please contact Deborah via email or by calling (800) 877-8822, ext. 114.
