Get Ready for SNA’s 2015 Legislative Action Conference

2015-02-23

It’s nearly time to mix and mingle with the folks on Capitol Hill as SNA’s 2015 Legislative Action Conference (LAC) draws near. This annual conference is the school nutrition professional’s opportunity to delve into the world of politics as it relates to the ever-changing world of school meals. Additionally, as we approach the 2015 Child Nutrition Reauthorization your voices are more critical than ever!

At LAC, expect nearly 1,000 of your peers at the J.W. Marriott hotel in Washington, D.C., for a discussion with not only your colleagues but also lawmakers and Washington insiders about the current political climate as it relates to school nutrition. If your associates are still wavering on joining you at LAC, make sure they know that onsite registration is still available by simply printing and filling out the form on SNA’s website and arriving at the Marriott on Sunday, March 1. When you arrive, don’t miss out on a number of special events taking place this year at LAC:

  • Arrive a day early for the pre-conference session on Saturday, February 28: How to Successfully Lobby Lawmakers and Federal Agencies. For just $100—you’ll earn 3 CEUs—and learn how with successful advocacy you can influence what the government does.
  • A number of informative General Sessions, including the Opening Session on Sunday, March 1 from 1:30-2:30 pm featuring keynote speaker Dr. Larry J. Sabato, university professor of politics at the University of Virginia (UVA) and the founder and head of the UVA Center for Politics. Dubbed “Professor of Politics,” Sabato is regularly featured on major news networks such as FOX and CNN for his “Crystal Ball” analysis of the political landscape.
  • Don’t miss the party on Monday, March 2, from 7–9:30 pm with the School Nutrition Foundation’s Celebration of School Nutrition Heroes! The evening will highlight five School Nutrition Heroes who have dedicated their lives to expanding access to healthy school meals and serving the needs of their community. As we acknowledge these five individuals, we will recognize the dedication of all school nutrition professionals, and that includes you. Tickets are required, and a limited number of tickets are still available for purchase.
  • Of course, the centerpiece of LAC, the Charge to the Hill and third annual Capitol Hill reception on Tuesday, March 3, when you truly get the opportunity to let your voice be heard.

Don’t forget to pack your sweaters; Washington, D.C., has been trending chilly! Currently, rain is forecasted for Sunday, March 1, and the other days range from the mid-20s to a high of 50 degrees. But we know that the colder temperatures can’t cool your passion for school nutrition—see you on the Hill!
