“Fed Up” Documentary Spotlights School Food

April 25, 2014 - SNA would like to notify members about “Fed Up”, a feature length documentary on the topic of childhood obesity, opening in select theaters nationwide and through video on demand starting on May 9. The film is produced by Katie Couric and Laurie David, known for producing Oscar winning “An Inconvenient Truth.” Details and the trailer can be found athttp://fedupmovie.com/.

The film, which is highly critical of the food industry, contains a ten minute segment that negatively portrays foods and beverages sold in schools. SNA has already reached out to set the record straight regarding the healthy meals being served in school. Fed Up’s promoters are contacting school administrators to request that they host school screenings of the film, and SNA has provided extensive feedback encouraging that these screenings promote informed discussions about ongoing efforts to promote healthy school environments.

SNA has also created resources to help members respond to questions about the film. Visit www.schoolnutrition.org/pr for talking points, customizable resources for parents and a sample letter you can send your district communications team and administrators requesting the opportunity to share information about your menus and meal program should they decide to screen the film in your community.
