Drumroll, Please! School Lunch Snapshot Contest Winners

2015-11-19

Last month, school nutrition professionals organized exciting celebrations in cafeterias nationwide to observe National School Lunch Week (NSLW). Utilizing the 2015 theme, “School Lunch Snapshot”, there was plenty of awesome photo-sharing to convey the message that today’s school lunches are healthy, appetizing and feature fresh fruits and veggies.

To complement the theme, SNA members were encouraged to use those great snapshots to participate in the Association’s inaugural NSLW photo contest. The contest took place during the entire month of October and its four categories captured the spirit of school lunch. SNA received over 150 entries from a variety of school districts. In many cases, it was difficult for the panel of judges to narrow down the choices.

For their winning entries, the following individuals will receive special prize packs (a photo tent, a selfie stick and a book on food photography) and their submissions will be published in an upcoming issue of School Nutrition magazine.

  • Lunch Tray Presentation (complete/reimbursable tray): Cathy Uzar, Martin County School District, Fla. (photo above, left)
  • Food Art and Styling: Kalin Prevatt, Bartow County School System, Ga. (photo above, right)
  • Staff Members at Work: Alyssa De Monte, Hicksville School District, N.Y. (photo below)
  • Lunchline Presentation and Layout: No winner in this category

Thanks to everyone that participated in NSLW’s School Lunch Snapshot Contest. We hope it was fun, but more importantly that you also used the fantastic photos of healthy foods, smiling faces, creative innovations, friendly staff and balanced trays to promote the many ways your school nutrition program is nourishing America’s children.
