Community Eligibility Provision Goes Nationwide

On August 5th, 2015, U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and U.S. Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced the nationwide expansion of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). CEP allows qualifying high-poverty local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools to offer breakfast and lunch at no cost to all students without requiring families to complete an annual household application. CEP has been successfully implemented in 14,000 schools reaching more than 6 million students in need. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive with schools reporting a significant decrease in administrative burdens and increased participation in school meal programs.
