ANC Speaker Spotlight: Dayle Hayes, MS, RD

SNA is providing you with a “sneak peek” into some of the most popular speakers we have lined up for ANC 2015. Read on for a Q+A with Dayle Hayes to learn what she’ll be sharing with you in Salt Lake City!

In your opinion, what are the most important trends and issues impacting school nutrition professionals today?
The truly exciting news is that school nutrition professionals are proactively promoting their success and engaging their customers through social media channels, smartphone apps and culinary events for children and their families!

Describe a little bit about your background and experience in school nutrition.
My favorite job description is that I’m a cheerleader for excellence in school nutrition. I started out as a mom ‘activist’ when my daughter went to first grade. As I learned about the challenges of feeding kids well, I joined SNA and started working with USDA Team Nutrition on training for healthier school environments. To combat negative stereotypes around school meals, I created my online brand School Meals That Rock and we’re very active on Facebook and Twitter.

Give us a sneak peek about what you have planned for your ANC session! What can attendees expect from you? How will your talk benefit them in their day-to-day?
I am thrilled to be part of two social media training opportunities in Salt Lake City – both designed to help school nutrition professionals maximize their online presence and their in-school participation. The first preconference workshop on Saturday morning features two outstanding presenters with serious social media credentials: Jeanne Reilly from Windham-Raymond RSU #14 (ME) and Wes Delbridge from Chandler Unified School District (AZ). This is a hands-on-device workshop and we guarantee that participants will upgrade their social media skills instantly – and leave with a plan for increasing the both quality of their posts and the quantity of their followers.

On Sunday afternoon, I’ll be doing an educational session – Your Online Brand: #SocialMedia Do’s and Don'ts. This will also be a hands-on-device session and it comes with the same guaranteed upgrade of social media skills. I’ll share hot tips on growing a positive online presence with multiple benefits for both school nutrition programs and professional careers.

What are you most excited about for ANC ’15?
Selfie fun with friends. #ANC15 tweets from #SLC. Product updates from the food show floor. More districts to follow on Facebook. Walks, talks and photos with friends. Inspiration for blog posts.

Where can attendees keep up with you and learn more?
