2nd Call for Nominations: February 2016 SNA Election

Last year SNA developed and introduced a new Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan includes an Infrastructure Goal which calls for SNA to have a more nimble governance structure that is financially sustainable and reflects contemporary best practices in associations. This past year we implemented a number of strategies in the plan under that Infrastructure Goal to review SNA’s governance structure. The governance review was completed, the proposed new governance structure was presented at the National Leadership Conference (NLC) and the required bylaw amendments to support the new structure were approved by the House of Delegates at the Annual National Conference (ANC) this year in July.

Under the new governance structure, there will be a transition period of three years to implement all the changes. As a part of the transition, the nominations and election process begins changing this year. Three new positions on the Board of Directors are now open for nominations. The election moves from October/November 2015 to February 2016, and each February thereafter.

In addition, the Leadership Development Committee (formerly the Nominating Committee) will be using this new timeframe to do additional recruitment for positions where there were not enough qualified candidates to complete the slate when they met in July at ANC. These positions are still open and listed below, in addition to the three new At Large Director positions on the Board of Directors.

The Leadership Development Committee, chaired by SNA Past President Leah Schmidt, SNS, will meet again in October at Committee Days to finalize the candidate slate for the 2016 election. The final slate will be announced soon after that meeting. The election will be held in February 2016.

The recruitment of talented leaders for national office is important in enabling SNA to achieve its strategic goals. SNA needs members with strong leadership skills, outstanding professional achievements and a record of active participation in their state association and at SNA to lead the association in the future.

The Leadership Development Committee announces the following open positions for the 2016 election:

  • At Large Director (3 positions - 6 candidates needed)
  • Northeast Regional Director (2 candidates needed)
  • Northwest Regional Director (1 candidate needed)

  • Mideast Region Representative (2 candidates needed)
  • West Region Representative (2 candidates needed)

The call for nominations to finalize the 2016 election slate is now open. Please consider the leadership talent you observe and work with in your state, your region or at the national level, and submit a nomination for one or more of the open positions. Consider submitting your own name for nomination! The Candidate Recommendation Form, the descriptions of the open positions and the eligibility requirements can be found here. Recommendations should be submitted to SNA as soon as possible. Nominations will close September 25, 2015.
