Largest School Nutrition Event to Feature School Cafeteria and Menu Planning Solutions

SNA’s Annual National Conference in Atlanta, July 9-12

NATIONAL HARBOR, MD – More than 6,500 school nutrition professionals will assemble in Atlanta, GA, next month for School Nutrition Association's (SNA) 71st Annual National Conference (ANC). From July 9-12, attendees will sample healthy foods that meet federal school nutrition standards and test new equipment, technology and services to consider for their local cafeterias.  School nutrition professionals from across the US will share best practices for strengthening meal programs to support increased student access to and consumption of healthy school meals. ANC will feature more than 120 education sessions and the largest exhibit hall in school nutrition.

As school nutrition professionals strive to better serve students, ANC will offer attendees strategies for procuring locally grown fruits and vegetables and encouraging students to eat them, transitioning to more scratch-prepared and clean-label entrees, and expanding access to summer and afterschool meals – all while maintaining a financially sustainable program.

 In the Exhibit Hall, attendees will seek school menu items that meet federal nutrition standards, appeal to diverse student tastes and fit within limited school meal program budgets. Menu planners need low-sodium, flavorful entrees and whole grain choices that are light and palatable to appeal to students unfamiliar with whole grain foods at home. Attendees will test menu software to help parents identify potential food allergens and new equipment to quickly prepare oven-roasted and steamed options.

Highlights include:

  • Education sessions on a wide range of topics including incorporating culinary trends on school menus, utilizing share tables to limit food waste and improving food safety and procurement practices.
  • The largest Exhibit Hall in the school nutrition industry with 200,000 square feet of exhibits from 408 companies, partner organizations and US Department of Agriculture divisions. Exhibitors will offer foods, supplies, equipment, technology, nutrition education and menu planning tools. Attendees will taste test lunch and breakfast entrees, sides, snacks and beverages that meet federal standards.
  • Culinary demonstrations featuring innovative school recipes such as Chicken Tikka Masala and Thai Style Fish Tacos.
  • General Session speakers include: NASA Astronauts & Retired U.S. Navy Captains Mark and Scott Kelly and thought leader Alex Sheen.
