New SNF Executive Director Strikes a Note for School Nutrition 2017-03-10 Please join SNA in welcoming Jane Mell Balek as the new executive director of the School Nutrition Foundation (SNF). Working closely with the SNF Board and SNA and SNF CEO Patricia Montague, Balek will provide strategic leadership in securing financial resources for education, professional development, scholarships and research. The creation of the new position increases the senior staff leadership resources to support SNF’s strategic goals. As former deputy executive director with the National Association for Music Education and CEO/executive director of the Give A Note Foundation, Balek was instrumental in spearheading six national awareness campaigns and raised millions of dollars to support and strengthen music education programs across the United States. These programs have reached millions of parents and students and provided more than $1.2 million in direct grants to schools in over 100 communities throughout the country. In June 2016, Balek was honored as one of the year’s five prestigious Lowell Mason Fellows from the National Association for Music Education. This distinction is one of music education’s most important honors, and is designed to recognize the accomplishments of music educators, music education advocates, political leaders, industry professionals, and others who have contributed to music education in their unique way. As SNF executive director, Balek will be responsible for directing the fundraising work of the foundation, implementing strategic and business plans approved by the SNF Board and managing the day to day operations. Balek will work in conjunction with Janet Hedrick, SNF director of Development, who will continue her efforts developing and successfully growing SNF programs like the Annual Campaign, the Heroes Awards, Giving Tuesday, the SNF Legacy Program and the State Ambassadors Program.
